I learnt a new word today!

I found the word 'animadversion' in a review of this book in yesterday's Guardian, and frankly I thought it was a typo, but reveals all:

  /ˌænəmædˈvɜrʒən, -ʃən/ [an-uh-mad-vur-zhuhn, -shuhn]

1. an unfavorable or censorious comment: to make animadversions on someone's conduct.
2. the act of criticizing.

1590–1600; < L animadversiōn- (s. of animadversiō) a heeding, censure, equiv. to animadvers(us) (ptp. of animadvertere to heed, censure; see animadvert ) + -iōn- -ion

Related forms:
an⋅i⋅mad⋅ver⋅sion⋅al, adjective

1. aspersion, reflection, derogation.

That's got to be useful.

63663 the current wordcount, meaning 525 words written today. Not too shabby for an hour and a half or so.

I am home from work earlier than planned, I have a soya hot chocolate and a nut-roast sandwich, I have the guilty knowledge that I wrote less than a hundred words over the entire Bank Holiday Weekend: this is my act, and this is me getting it together. I am going to sit here until 7pm or until I've written 1100 words, whichever is sooner (ha). Wordcount to follow!

Damn the rewrites

I've come up with a new concept for the novel which would probably make the structure more sensible and would get my point across better...unfortunately it would involve a substantial rewrite and reorganisation, so that's going to have to wait until I've written EVERY WORD of draft #1, I'm afraid!

637 words today

Have sort of given up on targets for the time being, they're not really achievable. (I'm so not New Labour.) Current wordcount = 63059...

In my defence, the phone rang.

Wordcount is now at 62422, so that's 513 words today. Not easy, this full-time job lark...

Today's target

...should be 63009, but I am a busy woman now (hence the five days of nothing) so have only allowed myself an hour's writing time...we will see...

Let the weekend begin!

Wordcount is now at 61909, meaning I wrote 1116 words today. And it didn't even take five hours *rollseyes*

Wrote two and a half pages of my TV script this morning...better than nothing, but only just. Meanwhile, today's novel target is 61893 words (and to be finished in time to watch Gilmore Girls on E4+1).

Thursday, 23 April 2009

Wordcount is now at 60793, hardly any of them copied from Facebook. And now, I shall go and wash up or something.

Distraction strikes! Less than a hundred words written today and I have been procrastinating by pasting the entire text into Wordle to make a word cloud:

Wordle: My novel

('Aimee' and 'Flo' are the names of two of the main characters, if that wasn't obvious...)

Today's wordcount target is...

60769. We shall see.
